Automate your 2023… and a poem from ChatGPT

Happy New Year everyone!

Its funny, I spend a lot of time introducing our Automation solutions to our customers so they can complete their important work way faster with improved accuracy. But as an older Boomer, I sometimes find myself stuck in the comfortable trap of doing things the old-fashioned way, simply because that’s the way I’ve always done it.

AI has made this a very exciting time for software developers… Tools like ChatGPT, TabNine, and GitHub Copilot can actually write our code and documentation for us. Stubborn old Boomers like me can get left behind if we are not willing to apply these tools to our own projects. Thankfully, my young and talented development team including Erik, Brad, Lexi and Jiading, are always out there searching for easier, and more magical ways to get their work done.

First they convinced me to throw out my old reliable (and beloved) Emacs text editor in favor of VSCode. I went in kicking and screaming, but the efficiency I gained with the switch was incredible… Then they really started the ball rolling.

Brad introduced us to TabNine and has been an early adopter of GitHub Copilot which he uses to quickly create working code from comments, including fully working GUIs.

Erik was intrigued by ChatGPT… He immediately started experimenting, using it to write and comment our code, and to automatically create test cases for the same code. He also used it to create documentation from our existing code and improve documentation we had already written.

As a lark, he also asked it to write a poem using the copy from our CadEnhance:About Us page.. The result was pretty astonishing!

Over the years I’ve learned that you can save a lot of time by spending just a little time if you are willing.
In welcoming 2023, we should explore and embrace the capabilities of Automated tools, or we may find ourselves left in the dust by our competitors.
